After many years' hiatus, Capilano University is very excited to announce a new opportunity for intermediate+ level wind, string, brass and percussion players interested in exploring repertoire for smaller orchestras including chamber music and world music.

Join with the instrumentalists from the Music diploma program under the direction of the dynamic and ever-so‐capable Dr. Kevin Zakresky to develop your playing, reading and collaborative skills in a friendly, energetic and affirming environment. Instruments from outside the standard Western orchestra warmly welcomed.

A brief evaluation of your level of ability with the director is expected before the first rehearsal. We will arrange the repertoire to fit whatever group of instruments are in the room. Come and be part of a new vision for community music‐making on the North Shore.

Prerequisites

New students must pass a Zoom audition with the instructor before registering. Please email kevinzakresky@me.com to schedule the audition. The audition will check ability on your particular instrument. You will be asked to play musical examples, to sight read and check quick learning ability. You also must be able to read Western music notation.

A NOTE ABOUT THE NUMBER OF SESSIONS: Below it says the there are 12 sessions. There are really 13, if you factor in the final performance on Thursday, December 1st. The rest of the sessions, including the dress rehearsal, take place on Wednesdays. Also, you don't have to wear a dress to the dress rehearsal. You can if you like, it's just not mandatory.

Sorry, this course is closed to registration at this time.
