For ages: 9 - 12
One of the best things about reading is getting lost inside another world. As a writer, having an imaginary world of your own gives you a jumping off point for an infinite number of stories (just ask Phillip Pullman or J.K. Rowling!). In this workshop, the focus is on creating “World Books.”
These world books will contain maps, imaginary creatures, illustrations, myths and legends, a lexicon of new words and anything else you’d like to include to give your world its own rules, history, magic and mysteries. Creating your own imaginary world from scratch can inspire endless adventures once you—and your characters—start to explore it.
At the end of camp on Friday, you get to dress up and share food from your civilization at our Imaginary Worlds' Fair. Parents are welcome!
